Pierre Whatley Applauds Coweta County’s Denial of Project Oak Data Center; Pledges to Fight for Responsible Growth in the State House

NEWNAN, GA — Following the Coweta County Board of Commissioners' decision to unanimously deny the rezoning petition for the proposed “Project Oak” data center, Pierre Whatley, candidate for Georgia House District 70, released the following statement:

“Last night, Coweta County put community first. The denial of Project Oak sends a clear message: our neighborhoods, our quality of life, and our rural character are not for sale.

“I support innovation and economic growth—but it must work for the people who already call Coweta home, not come at their expense. We cannot ask hardworking families and small businesses to shoulder the burden of higher utility bills and infrastructure strain while billion-dollar tech corporations demand sweetheart tax deals.

“Thank you to every resident who showed up, spoke out, organized, and refused to be ignored. Your voices mattered. This is what happens when a community stands together. And as your next State Representative, I’ll fight every day for responsible growth that puts Coweta families first.”

In April, following the Project Sail vote, Whatley wrote an op-ed in the Newnan Times-Herald criticizing the decision to move forward despite more than 8,000 residents voicing opposition. He argued then that economic development should never mean ignoring the people who live here and pledged to bring that same commitment to community-first, responsible growth to the State House.
